Daysmel has a decade of experience as an educator in schools in Southern California. He’s been teaching guitar, bass, and ukulele for the past seven years. He is also a touring performer in the band Mr. Moonshine. Daysmel believes that music can enrich a person’s life, develop their brain and be used as a means of self expression in the world. Lessons with Daysmel help students make important discoveries about music and their individual learning process.
What age were you when you first started taking music lessons?
16.5 years old.
Tell us about an early music lessons experience that helped shape you as a musician or teacher:
My first music lessons as a teenager were just an explosion of learning for me. I learned about so many different ways to play guitar. It was once when I was playing my teacher’s guitar that I realized I truly enjoyed playing music with others.
What are your favorite bands or musicians?
So many! My favorite musicians have not only made amazing music, but shaped the way I view the world in some way. Here’s a few: Miles Davis Frank Zappa Wayne Krantz King Crimson The Beatles Charles Mingus.
Do you have a highlight of your music career so far that you would like to share?
For me it was getting to travel to NY to play music for an Avant Garde theater production my friends had written.
Describe your ideal student.
Anyone who truly is interested in learning and connecting with music.
Describe what your students should expect in their first few music lessons.
Expect to work on learning the fundamentals of the instrument along with some songs! It really depends though, there’s a lot of ways to Branch out depending on the student’s learning style.
Why did you want to become a music teacher?
I have always loved to help others learn and combining it with my love for music just seems to fit well for me!
