Nicholas Welch
Nicholas (he/him) is a singer/songwriter and guitar player born and raised in Utah. He’s been playing guitar for 20 years and has been a part of numerous projects ranging many genres. Nicholas was in Utah State University’s Music Therapy Program before he embarked on a path of music performance and production. As a teacher, he focuses on “feel”, fundamentals, deep listening, and improvisation.

Tell us about an early music lessons experience that helped shape you as a musician or teacher:
Guitar camp 2009 blew my mind – finally learned how to use scales to sing with the instrument leading to life long exploration & improv studies.
What are your favorite bands or musicians?
Khraugnbin, FKJ, Blake Mills, Julian Lage, John Mayer, Bahamas, Andrew Bird, Coldplay, Yellowcard, Green Day, Kendrick Lamar, Yussef Days, Etc.
Do you have a highlight of your music career so far that you would like to share?
Newest album “Million Days” out now 🙂 (Self produced)
Describe your ideal student.
Someone who *wants* to learn – Someone who doesn’t see practice as an obstacle, but instead The Way itself – Someone with genuine curiosity – Someone who really loves music
Describe what your students should expect in their first few music lessons.
Guitar is fun and we can make musical sounds right away (through the power of alt tuning) – holding the guitar correctly matters – expect to learn some basic terminology.
Why did you want to become a music teacher?
Music is unquantifiably valuable and the more people that have a connection to it the better this world will be.
