What age were you when you first started taking music lessons?

Tell us about an early music lessons experience that helped shape you as a musician or teacher:

I was very fortunate to partake in two of the amazing Victor Wooten’s ‘Bass Nature Camps’. These were week long, intensive music workshops that focussed on music as a whole. These workshops shaped the way I think about music in its entirety, and also shaped the way I teach.

What are your favorite bands or musicians?

Snarky Puppy, Jaco Pastorius, Victor Wooten, Prince, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, James Jamerson, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against The Machine, and way too many more to list here.

Do you have a highlight of your music career so far that you would like to share?

Playing big stages at many large festivals around the midwest for 1000’s of people. There is nothing like playing music to responsive large crowds!

Describe your ideal student.

First and foremost, inspired and interested. If you don’t have the passion you will not progress quickly. And in relation to that, I would say passion is much more important than ‘raw talent’.

Describe what your students should expect in their first few music lessons.

Learn fundamentals of basic technique, and we will learn through actual music and bass lines (get grooving right away). Beyond that we can get into improvisation, theory, and all the subtle facets of music that really get you to ‘speak the language’.

Why did you want to become a music teacher?

Music is my passion, and I want to share it with anyone that is interested.
